It is an Special Day for the Tamizh Hindu God Lord Murugan (Karthikeya) Son of  Lord Shiva and Parvati.It is Celebrated in the Tamizh month “Thai” it falls in between  January  and February.In the full  moon day (Pournami)it is celebrated majorly by Tamizh Hindus.Lord Velava is an Youth and Powerful Tamizh god and now the devotees all  over the world to pray and get his blessings by carrying kaavadi on the shoulder which is filled with the peacock feathers on the both the sides .Before the day of Thaipusam the devotees undergoes the fasting for the 48 days  for the War God Muruga.

On this Auspicious day the Major Murugan temple in Tamizh Nadu like Pazhani,Thiruthani,Thiruparangundram,Pazhamudhir  cholai,Swamimalai,Thiruchendoor is filled with the Devotees by carrying Kaavadi and the Azhagu kuthuthal (It is done by in carrying aayudha on the body ) on the various part of body like in cheek or on the back sides skin. It is done that as they prayed for any particular need or the need of Blessings.

It is celebrated mainly because he took revenge on the “Sooran”. So the different incarnation is took by the God karthickeya,so the major peoples in Malaysia, China, Singapore, Thailand, Mauritius devotees pray Lord Kandha. Also they worship him also keeping Statues on the home to make fulfill their wishes and his blessings on this Auspicious day.
